A friend of mine did just that, using a wireless remote control,
with quite good results.
It was a rather small wedding though - indeed about as small as
they can get, no guests other than the two witnesses law requires...

Anyway, I've photographed in a couple of weddings, once as the
primary photographer (my brother-in-law's, who later returned
the favour) without any problems, but as others have already
said, it depends a lot on the people in question.

It might be a good idea to ask the couple and parents-in-law
something like "I've never done a wedding before, how will
you feel if I screw up totally and you get no pictures at all?"
If they don't take the hint, their expression may help you
decide if you should back out.
