I believe color cast is a big factor, and the thing I noticed most. They are both very sharp. If I was going back to the 1.8, I'd want one of the first versions, not so much for the metal lens mount or distance scale but the focusing ring on the Mk II is awkward for me. And IIRC, the hood on the newer on uses some adapter gizmo that will drive you crazy. I struggled with one of those hoods on my Mk 1 until Julian pointed out I had the wrong hood. (thanks Julian if you're reading this). Tom P. -------------------------------------------------------- Y'know. Everyone keeps claiming color cast. I shoot hundred of slides and have yet to see a difference in color cast between Canon lenses. They are all very neutral. Now this includes white in the slides so I would think I could see it. If you are shooting prints, chances are you will never see this alleged color cast. Also. The Mark II is plastic but uses the same elements and iris. Tests have shown its slightly sharper too. But the 1.4 is a killer optic for me. It's a Planar type or Double-Gauss lens design. The major difference is one more element and group in the 1.4. Just my 3 cents, 1 more than probably many wanted :-) Peter K * **** ******* *********************************************************** * For list instructions, including unsubscribe, see: * http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/eos_list.htm ***********************************************************
