I'm under the - perhaps mistaken - impression that Canon goes to certain lengths to achieve a relatively uniform look across the lens line, which would obviate big differences in color cast, and which I think would certainly be desirable for pros who exercise meticulous CM. This was true in FD/nFD glass, I would assume an even higher level in EF glass.

Y'know. Everyone keeps claiming color cast. I shoot hundred of slides
and have yet to see a difference in color cast between Canon lenses.
They are all very neutral. Now this includes white in the slides so I
would think I could see it.
If you are shooting prints, chances are you will never see this alleged
color cast.

Also. The Mark II is plastic but uses the same elements and iris. Tests
have shown its slightly sharper too. But the 1.4 is a killer optic for
me. It's a Planar type or Double-Gauss lens design. The major difference
is one more element and group in the 1.4.

Just my 3 cents, 1 more than probably many wanted :-)
