To the EOS group,
I have this esoteric problem and wonder if anyone else has solved it. I
would like to use a manual lens (non Canon) on my 1Ds with extension tubes,
but the camera will not fire. The mirror pops up and I get "ERR 01" (dirty
contacts!). The camera has to be shut down, then restarted to get the mirror
down and functioning again.
This has little to do with the lens because just mounting an extension tube
and dry firing will produce the error. But, once a Canon lens is mounted,
the camera functions. So, something electrical does happen to make
everything OK.
I use Kenko tubes, but I understand that the same thing occurs with genuine
Canon. I taped over the electrical contacts on the tubes, but get the same
error. Interestingly, I can reproduce "ERR 01" by moving a hidden pin in
the Canon body, located at about 10 o'clock on the lens mount. I think this
may be the key to my problem, but hesitate to start filing aluminum mounts
just yet.
If anyone has a solution, I am interested.
