I'm assuming this is a lens with some other mount other than EOS and that
you're using an adapter to match it to the front of your extension tube. If
so, you need to get an extension tube for that mount and fit it between the
adapter and lens and not use the EOS extension tubes. The switch you're
referring to tells the body that an EF lens is attached. If you look at an
adapter (like a Tmount/M42, you'll see it does not activate this switch.

If, otoh, this is something in a Canon mount that is a manual lens (like a
mirror lens), then I'm not sure why you're having the problem.
