On 10/5/06, Stan Patz, discombobulated, unleashed: >I have this esoteric problem and wonder if anyone else has solved it. The camera has to be shut down, then restarted to get the mirror >down and functioning again. > >This has little to do with the lens because just mounting an extension tube >and dry firing will produce the error. But, once a Canon lens is mounted, >the camera functions. So, something electrical does happen to make >everything OK. > >I use Kenko tubes, but I understand that the same thing occurs with genuine >Canon. I taped over the electrical contacts on the tubes, but get the same >error. Interestingly, I can reproduce "ERR 01" by moving a hidden pin in >the Canon body, located at about 10 o'clock on the lens mount. I think this >may be the key to my problem, but hesitate to start filing aluminum mounts >just yet. > >If anyone has a solution, I am interested.
When I first messed about with a custom mount for attaching a Pentax K lens onto a D60, I got a similar error. IIRC I had to machine a small part of one of the mounting flanges off to allow the camera to fire. The basis of the conversion was a simple EF/M42 adapter of the type that can be readily purchased from camera shops or eBay sellers. The version I got would not allow the D60 to fire when mounted, until I filed a small portion off. I think it was pretty obvious which portion. I confirmed it by not locating the mount all the way into the lock position where I was able to fire the shutter, yet another short twist into the locked position and no go.
