Yes, thank you, that works - not fully seating the extension tube to avoid moving the little pin. But, as you point out, it is only a risky, temporary solution. Since the lens I want to use is a tilt/shift item, it takes a lot of handling. So having a slightly loose lens would be a problem.

If you only need to do this once or twice, mount the tube, but do not
engage the click-lock. Watch that you do not drop the lens.

WJM once suggested machining out a second detent on the tube so that
the lens would not fall so easily.
