With Canon film cameras, ECF appeared on the "3/30/33" series. None of the "1" series had it.

Actually ECF was introduced with the A2e / EOS-5 way back in the first half of the 90s. I bought mine somewhere around mid-1994. I didn't use it much then because of the horizontal orientation limitation. My EOS-3 has an improved version but I didn't use ECF much with it either so I really don't miss it on my 20D. I wonder if the lack of ECF in the -1 bodies is an indication that pros don't use it...... Or don't they use it because they don't have it?

If Canon follow similar thinking with their digital bodies, that means ECF probably won't show up in the "1D" series. Personally I think it'll probably be included in a future 5D body, unless they come out with a 3D at some point.
