For me it worked fine. I loved it. And it was really the only way to
use the 45 points! I can not believe that the people who bought 1V or
3 would just use the middle point or *gasp* automatic selection - but
that's what they did. ECF really was the only way to use those points.
And I loved using the points in the corners - I just wish they would
have been even further away :-) The 5D for example, still doesn't have
as useable coverage in the corners.

Huh, that has never happened to me. It's even quite hard to turn
(compared to any other similar switch on EOS) - maybe you had it
loosened somehow...

Anyways, the user interfaces are changing, I do not think that it
would have been selected the same way (although I preferred the EOS-3
way to hiding it in the menus. Besides, the cameras always have lot's
of features that you do not need...

Well, different strokes for different folks, you like ECF, I hate ECF, we
are both right for our own reasons, nothing wrong with that, the type of
stuff I shoot are extremely fast pace, race cars, fast jets etc., I cannot
manage framing, tracking, and skew the point of where I am looking all at
the same time to focus on the corner of the subject when the action is
happening at a blazing fast pace, as such I can live with my decision not to
use the ECF.

No I did not loosen the ECF switch! Why would I do that when I don't even
want to use it? If anything I would have had it tightened(only if I knew
how!).

"EOS-3 menus", it's been almost 3 years now since I bought the 1D Mk2 and
have not touched the EOS-3 once, what "menus" in the EOS-3 are you referring
to? I can't recall any user menus for the EOS-3.........
