I bought the A2E (with ECF) thinking I would love to use this, turned out
that I hardly ever use it since it gave me a headache having to glance at
the point I wan to focus while keeping the composition framed, I find it
faster to just use the center AF point to focus, lock it, and recompose.

But what did you do when the subject was not at the center and you
wanted to use flash?

I then bought the EOS-3 for it's overall capability but not the "improved"
45 point ECF, tried ECF a couple of times and still hated it..........., so

For me it worked fine. I loved it. And it was really the only way to
use the 45 points! I can not believe that the people who bought 1V or
3 would just use the middle point or *gasp* automatic selection - but
that's what they did. ECF really was the only way to use those points.
And I loved using the points in the corners - I just wish they would
have been even further away :-) The 5D for example, still doesn't have
as useable coverage in the corners.

again I don't use it, in fact I lost a few shots over the years because the
ECF switch accidentally got bumped to ON position, and me and the camera
unknowingly were fighting each other for focus control!

Huh, that has never happened to me. It's even quite hard to turn
(compared to any other similar switch on EOS) - maybe you had it
loosened somehow...

Happily this "feature" is not on the 1D Mk2 I use now, if it were there, I
would have taped it or glued it permanently to the off position.

Anyways, the user interfaces are changing, I do not think that it
would have been selected the same way (although I preferred the EOS-3
way to hiding it in the menus. Besides, the cameras always have lot's
of features that you do not need...
