If you use the Canon Speedlites, it is highly recommended that you select the 
desired focusing point manually instead of using the focus and recompose 
technique. The flash exposure is weighted towards the selected focusing point, 
and may differ depending on the focusing point selected. E-TTL flash exposures 
are more heavily weighted towards the selected focusing point. The most 
notorious examples were the Canon D30 and D60, where the flash exposures 
changes were significant, and became rather painful to use in wedding 
photography. 

Newer EOS cameras allow the photographer to set the E-TTL flash metering to 
average, which eliminates most of the annoyances of the flash metering.
