Randy,

Coupes usually have a combined pitot/static device under the left wing.
This tube is fairly thick, maybe a half inch. The front end has a cup
shaped opening with the pitot opening. Arrayed around the tube of the
cylinder are four static ports. The multiple ports take care of
neutralizing the static pressure when you have changes of attitude.

There should be TWO tubes running from this device to your pressure
instruments.

There's a specification for how far the tube should be from the wing
surface and I've heard of some problems in accuracy when this isn't met.
Sorry I don't know that detail.

This pitot/static tube combination is a nice idea in my ignorant opinion
and I'd like to get one to use in my Challenger II Ultralight/Light Sport
Aircraft I'm building. If anyone has one from an old junked-out Coupe
wing, please let me know and we'll talk.

Please excuse my ignorance on this but in trying to track down why my
altimeter was off by a couple of hundred feet I noticed that it was not
connected to anything at all... just attatched to the panel. I then found
that my Ercoupe has no static port. I have 2 coupes and upon checking the
other one I found it to be the same. Is this common? How can I (Can I?)
install a static port or correct the problem? Do I need to? I am planning
on upgrading the venturi, installing a vertical speed and D.G. Any help
would be appreciated.

Randy
