John at Skyport has all the wing bolts also has the proper torque values. I replaced mine last summer. Remember that most windows start to crack at a screw hole. Make sure the holes are oversized and well finished, per the instructions. Don't be afraid to use a sealer/insulator between the plastic and the sheet metal. I'm cc'ing this to the Tech side where it should have been, maybe someone smarter than me will have a better answer. ----- Original Message ----- From: Richard Wilkens To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, January 10, 2005 10:59 AM Subject: [COUPERS-FLYIN] Use of screws and not rivets in side windows Hi All, There have been several posting on side window replacement over the years. I have one additional question about the rivets. LP Aero Plastics on their page GENERAL DRILLING, TRIMMING, AND FASTENING INSTRUCTIONS FOR ACRYLIC WINDSHIELDS AND WINDOWS (http://www.lpaero.com/DRILTRIM.html) tells you to use screws with locking nuts and not rivets. Do any of you think an AP or the FAA would object to the use of screws and not rivets. It sure would make side window replacement a lot easier. With small screws, a little counter sinking and round nuts, they may not get in the way. I believe the front bolts are AN10-24 and the rear are AN5-5. The Ercoupe part numbers are 415-00002-5 and 415-00002-3 respectively. I am not listing the part numbers for the nuts/washers and cotter pins, but they are all available. The salesman for your area should be able to help you. Good and tight is the norm, but if you feel the need to torque the bolts, follow the torque guide for the size of the bolt in AC43.
