Tandy - It is my understanding that a valid driver's license is your valid
medical certificate if you are a declared and FAA licensed Sport Pilot.
If
you are a member, call AOPA or EAA. They both have specialists for
answering Sport Pilot questions.

confirmed that a third class medical was not required as long as you met
the other Sport Pilot requirements such as a current BFR. My current
carrier is AIG. The policy requires that when the insured aircraft is in
flight that the pilot have a current "FAA Pilots Certificate" and "if
required, a current and valid FAA medical certificate" It is my
understanding that the FAR's now recognize the Sport Pilot rule and
therefore a medical certificate is not required to fly as a Sport Pilot.
