Jerry, I also forgot to mention that even though the message talks about Private Pilot license you need to see who was asked the question. It is Larry Clymer who is (or was at the time) the manager of AFS-610 which is the Light-Sport Aviation Branch of the FAA. So we have a Sport Pilot DPE asking the Light-Sport Branch manager of the FAA the question. I think that should be taken into consideration as well when you determine if this email exchange is applicable to our current conversation.
