Kostas. There are many possibilities that cause low power output in our engines. Sacramento Skyranch lists over 50 of them, half of them not applicable to our engines. Follow the link here: http://www.sacskyranch.com/eng27.htm I understand your engine had been recently rebuilt and since installation is not producing the power you are used to. Also the carb heat seems not to show an effect. I would check there first. The carburetor heat should always be working. Ther will be one day that you need it. It creates a drop of around 100 rpm. I am thinking your carburetor heat might be hooked up wrong. I saw that happen when the mechanic did not understand the system and hooked up the wire the wrong way. Then you would open the carb heat by pushing in and close by pushing out. That seemed not right to the mechanic and he solved the problem by loosening the attachment arm on the flapper valve, thus eliminating the carb heat. Luckily it got stuck in an open position. Yours might be stuck in a closed one. That would explain the loss in rpm and the inability to get a rpm drop on carb heat. I think the light grey exhaust color is due to the fact that you are burning 100LL . Mogas makes it always dark to sooty black, 100LL settles in grey. My feeling is that these colors are independent from engine richness. Before you are working your way through the Skyranch trouble shooting list, have a look at your carb heater. The best to check for the proper function is to remove the air filter and have some actuate the carb heat . You should be able to see the flapper go fully up and down. If this works properly, you should see a drop in rpm on application. Second leave the air filter out and try a runup now. If you gain rpm, your air filter might be bad. Then check the timing. How is the engine running on one magneto alone? Check for loose hoses and elbow connectors on the path from the carburetor to the cylinders. What kind of overhaul was it. Did you get a replacement engine or was yours rebuild? And last: Where are you based in Greece? Can one come and visit you? Hartmut

I own a 415 C s/n 1477 was registered in USA as N94154 now SX-NAI recently renovated with a newly rebuild engine C85-12F along with McCauley cm7148 prop and now flying in Greece. 1. From the first flight the engine could not reach max rpm 2575 in flight and I felt the power was weak during any part of flight. Static rpm 2150 and max during straight and level 2350, in short runways with two person on board is hard to take off. The carb heat when applied does not change/drop the rpm and engine's exhaust color is not black just light grey, does this mean lean mixture. My mixture is secured to rich. My carburetor (overhauled as well) is a Stromberg NA-S3A1 and I have checked also a Marvel MA-3SPA 10-3565-1 without improvement. 2. When flying straight-level was difficult to trim and fly hands off and I felt the drag, the max speed i saw was 90mph. After thorough investigation found that the engine thrust line is deviated from the center line not 3,5 degrees as per maker but 12!!!! downwards. We fitted washers at the lower two points of engine mount and brought back to 3,5 degrees the engine trust line compared to center line. Then flying was quite improved but not satisfactorily enough(speed remain same). Does this mean a bended engine mount or something more serious? Any idea is more than welcome. Thanks in advance for your time to read my post and sorry for my bad English. Χρησιμοποιείτε Yahoo!Βαρεθήκατε τα ενοχλητικά μηνύ ματα (spam); Το Yahoo!
