Good day all
Although I’m long time member in this forum it’s my first time posting and I
need help from any one has an idea about my problem.
I own a 415 C s/n 1477 was registered in USA as N94154 now SX-NAI recently
renovated with a newly rebuild engine C85-12F along with McCauley cm7148 prop
and now flying in Greece.
1. From the first flight the engine could not reach max rpm 2575 in flight and
I felt the power was weak during any part of flight.
Static rpm 2150 and max during straight and level 2350, in short runways with
two person on board is hard to take off.
The carb heat when applied does not change/drop the rpm and engine’s exhaust
color is not black just light grey, does this mean lean mixture. My mixture is
secured to rich.
My carburetor (overhauled as well) is a Stromberg NA-S3A1 and I have checked
also a Marvel MA-3SPA 10-3565-1 without improvement.
2. When flying straight-level was difficult to trim and fly hands off and I
felt the drag, the max speed i saw was 90mph.
After thorough investigation found that the engine thrust line is deviated from
the center line not 3,5 degrees as per maker but 12!!!! downwards.
We fitted washers at the lower two points of engine mount and brought back to
3,5 degrees the engine trust line compared to center line. Then flying was
quite improved but not satisfactorily enough(speed remain same).
Does this mean a bended engine mount or something more serious?
Any idea is more than welcome.
Thanks in advance for your time to read my post and sorry for my bad English.
