Hi Couper,

I would verify engine timing.

First time one mechanic did an annual on my coupe he re-set the 
timing...wrong.
Fuel burn increased by almost half!

Could just as easily have had adverse effect on available power.

Another few other things to check for:  

        1.  Clogged air filter  (this would tend to show itself as no change 
or increased RPM when you check Carb Heat)

        2.  Throttle cable travel limited (incapable of full throttle)

        3.  Binding of butterfly in Air Filter assembly

        4.  Mixture control (holes) inside carb obstructed

        5.  Check for adequate gravity flow by disconnecting fuel line to carb 
and timing how long for three gallons to drain.

        6.  Check for obstructed screen in gascolator

How is compression?

How is oil consumption?
