i'm forwarding this to the entire list as a public service.
dankseeds are shows that have been certified by a group of etree'ers
(the danksters) who scrutinize the transfer of shows for a "perfect"
transfer.
they ensure that there has been no EAC'ing (exact audio copy) of the
show from an audio disc (EAC is the best audio extraction tool that exists,
but audio extraction is never 100%, 100% of the time), but rather that the
show has gone directly from DAT (digital audio tape) to computer, to .shn.
(unlike EAC, as long as there aren't any hardware problems (dirty tape
heads, worn out wiring, mal-adjusted recording software, ect...), the
transfer will be 100%, 100% of the time). as well as ensuring that there are
no sector boundary problems with the recording (bad sector boundaries can
cause pop's and clicks in the recording).
a dank certified show doesn't instantly mean that it is the best
recording of the show around (but 9+ times out of 10 it is). just that it is
a flawless transfer of the show.
    shnf = shorten file
this is simply the ending for the name of a main directory for a show.
this is the standard for etree file naming :
http://etree.org/faq_seed.html#4 (it's a little way down from here)
the only change that has been made to these standards is that allot of
people have started using the full 4 digits for the year of shows rather
than just the last two digits of the year.
