Get hold of the Maxblast utility which should be on the CD that came with your disk. It will map out bad sectors and pretty thoroughly test the drive too.

I will probably end up doing that... it just sucks since its brand
new... I was thinking i'd do more thourough testing on it, and see if
its minor enough that i'd just use it... but then again, it will likely
just get worse, and end up loosing something...
What are the chances it could be a bad cable? maybe the power connector?
I guess i should test stuff more before I send it back... hopefully it
will be easy like kbob noted...
