Yup.. according to the service manual for my MR2 the shaft nuts are
correctly torqued to 120 lb/ft.  I've never broken anything on a car
getting these nuts off, but a lot of wretches have been bent.

On a car that hasn't had them off before, an impact wretch may be
required, but usually two people, a quality 1/2" socket set and a 4-6
foot long extension handle works.  I've never seen a car with the nuts
reverse threaded.  You should not reuse the nuts once removed.
