Funny, that's how I first got exposed to EV's back in the 80's.  I was
working at General Dynamics Land Systems in Michigan.  We were working on
the designs for the next generation of armored vehicles.  The leading plan
was for electric motors at each drive sprocket.  (Having huge battery-banks
also facilitated electric propulsion for tank guns and howitzers.) Of
course, these were hybrids which would have had on-board turbines to power
generators.  Alas, after we won the Cold War and the USSR collapsed, there
was no longer any need.
