Do they allow regular EV conversions?
Yes, so far. Otherwise our Sunrise EV2 project would be *dead*!
I worry about the regulation freaks someday outlawing "hot rodding" cars
in any manner. This has already happened in *many* other countries!
But so far, every state in the USA has rules that *allow* people to
build or modify their own cars, trucks, motorcycles, and other vehicles,
with only a few limitations.
I'm sure the auto industry and safety nazis would love to see this
outlawed. But so far, there are plenty of rich powerful special
interests in the automotive aftermarket that lobby hard to prevent such
laws.
There *is* no lobby watching out for EVs, though! If GM, Ford, etc. got
it in their little heads to buy a law to ban homebuilt EV conversions,
it would probably pass!
