A mental exercise of plugin driving from Canada to Mexico [ref http://electric-vehicle-discussion-list.413529.n4.nabble.com/EVLN-Gov-Kitzhaber-pushes-EVs-as-10-year-OR-Energy-Action-Plan-td4661805.html EVLN: Gov Kitzhaber pushes EVs as 10-year OR Energy Action Plan ]
The above newswire tells of OR's efforts to promote plugin use. In fact they have been so successful that OR and WA are light-years ahead of CA as far as public level-3 EVSE along major highway corridors. I thought I would perform a mental exercise of what-if a plugin driver wanted to drive from Canada to the Mexican border (or vice versa). Use the URL below to see the pubic l3 EVSE that runs from the northern WA and Canada border, south along highway 5, to the southern OR and CA border: http://www.afdc.energy.gov/locator/stations/widget/route/results?utf8=%E2%9C%93&start=Bellingham%2C+WA&end=Ashland%2C+OR&filtered=true&fuel=ELEC&owner=all&payment=all&ev_dc_fast=true&radius_miles=60 OR, WA and Canadian plugin drivers can explore this long corridor to their hearts content. And yes, there are petrol stations along the way that have l3&2 EVSE: 7Feathers Truck & Travel Center,130 Creekside Dr,Canyonville,OR,97417 http://www.recargo.com/sites/1529 Shell,6131 Capitol Blvd SE,Olympia,WA,98501 http://www.recargo.com/sites/6122 Chevron,3745 E Portland Rd,,Newberg,OR,97132 http://www.recargo.com/sites/7573 In fact some gas stations are proud of it and advertise their EVSE: http://www.recargo.com/system/site_photos/2454/big/recargo50525259829865.jpg Chevron,1510 E. Pine St.,Central Point, OR 97502 http://www.recargo.com/sites/3107 But that is where the fun ends. See the URL below: http://www.afdc.energy.gov/locator/stations/widget/route/results?utf8=%E2%9C%93&start=Ashland%2C+OR&end=San+Diego%2C+CA&filtered=true&fuel=ELEC&owner=all&payment=all&ev_dc_fast=true&radius_miles=60 You will see a huge gap in public l3 EVSE between the CA northern border and just north of the Sacramento. If you drop down a notch to use public level-2 EVSE for that route (see URL below): http://www.afdc.energy.gov/locator/stations/widget/route/results?utf8=%E2%9C%93&start=Ashland%2C+OR&end=San+Diego%2C+CA&filtered=true&fuel=ELEC&owner=all&payment=all&ev_level2=true&radius_miles=60 There are also huge gaps in l2 EVSE installations along that route as well. The trip has been done before, thus there must be some recharging points to arrange to use, it is not the smooth, well laid out installations as in WA and OR. I put together a map of locations along highway 5 that would be fine for public l3&2 EVSE installations same as they have in OR and WA: http://goo.gl/maps/SuyjQ l3&2 Ashland, OR to Vacaville, CA and on to the SF bay area, which already has l3 EVSE. http://goo.gl/maps/d7FUJ l3&2 Ashland, OR to Los Angeles, CA which already has l3 to San Diego. So what is the hold up from CA having public l3&2 EVSE along a major highway like WA & OR? There is still funding available but, why bother if the NRG settlement CA Gov Brown agreed to is suppose to install public CA EVSE? http://www.torquenews.com/1075/nrgevgo-free-expand-california-following-fercs-rejection-ecotalitys-intervention http://www.torquenews.com/1075/californias-settlement-nrg-electric-car-charging-network-headed-ferc http://www.torquenews.com/1075/nrg-reaching-out-quell-concerns-electric-car-charging-network-deal-california But it has been four months since the above PR and not a sound as to what is going to happen, or what NRG eVgo's plans are. Have CA drivers been stiffed? Drivers that are also miffed at NRG eVgo's inaction should tell eVgo to get on with the task at hand by building a public CA highway EVSE infrastructure: http://www.evgonetwork.com/contact-us/ {brucedp.150m.com} -- View this message in context: http://electric-vehicle-discussion-list.413529.n4.nabble.com/Re-EVSE-overcrowding-replaces-range-angst-tp4661763p4661846.html Sent from the Electric Vehicle Discussion List mailing list archive at Nabble.com. _______________________________________________ UNSUBSCRIBE: http://www.evdl.org/help/index.html#usub http://lists.evdl.org/listinfo.cgi/ev-evdl.org For EV drag racing discussion, please use NEDRA (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NEDRA)
