I see nothing wrong with promoting modern battery chemistry as the way forward. However, I don't think it helps any cause to denigrate older or more conservatively-designed lead-battery EVs or their drivers. Regrettably, that's what this kind of attitude does. If you want more people with conversions to show up at these events, I'd recommend that you try to refrain from language that they might perceive as scorning them and/or their cars - language like "dead acid," for example.
