I personally have already bought the unit, trusting that the manufacturer has designed and tested it appropriately. But, having an independent lab test the device and find that it is in compliance is always better than having to trust the manufacturer. It may be important to others because some power company rebates specify that the EVSE must have UL certification to qualify for the rebate.
