    Well that's a relief!

But this is mostly just metadata. It is obviously appropriate to keep

become
important evidence weeks later when that flight is bombed.

And who decides what's reasonable? So far it's the courts and Congress. You may not think it's reasonable, but you only get one vote.

And with the almost unlimited as well as largely un-attributable money flooding the American political process at every level you believe that every person has equal influence on the political process?

No, but I doubt Jason puts in enough money to get two votes. It's not that hard to see where the big money comes from even if we don't get a legally mandated exact count. I think this is actually a secondary problem due to the extreme inequality of wealth; but I don't really know what to do about it. In the long run we could impose a direct wealth tax. It seems a little unfair that I have to pay property tax on my home which represents 80% of my wealth, while a really rich person has his wealth in stocks and bonds and hedge funds and only pays property tax on 5% of his wealth.

But any such proposal to raise taxes causes conservatives and libertarians to raise specters of socialism and government control.
