Well that's a relief!

    But this is mostly just metadata.  It is obviously appropriate to keep data 
for some
    period.  Discussions of an airline flight that seem innocent may become 
important
    evidence weeks later when that flight is bombed.

And who decides what's reasonable? So far it's the courts and Congress. You may not think it's reasonable, but you only get one vote.
