Well said. And I agree with the Hawaiians on one thing, Mouna Kea is indeed a very special place, but it's so special it belongs to the entire human race and is not the exclusive property of one particular tribe of anti scientific dimwits. On the Earth there are only 3 places that have good enough seeing conditions for a thirty meter telescope, Mouna Kea, the Atacama desert in Chile, and Dome C in Antarctica. As far as off earth is concerned it will be many decades before a thirty meter telescope can be built in space, the Hubble is only 2.4 meters in diameter, the thirty meter telescope, if it had been built, could have seen things 156 times dimmer than what the Hubble can see; but the wonders it could have told us about are denied to us thanks to religious native Hawaiians and Mother Fucking Earth and Father Fucking Sky. This is the Everything List, we're supposed to be interested in the ultimate nature of reality, and one group of people thinks the best way to do that is to "bow down to the mountain" and the other group thought the best way was to build a thirty meter telescope on top of that mountain. You have to decide which group deserves your respect and which group you want to be associated with. I've made my choice.
