This is an interesting thread, bit it comes down to personal preference
again. We are all lucky to have so many choices. Like it, fix it, or get
something else.

Mandrake itself has the same. Make it as good as it can be and please as many
people as possible, and hope that it all heads in the direction they want. No
matter what is done, there will always be devotees. Then there will be
opportunists, jumping on when it all comes together well. Also adventure
seekers, hackers trying to improve what is not so good, and a mixture of all
three, and Mandrake would be happy if all these came on board. That would be
enough to generate the money required to keep going, but still only about 10%
of the population that can afford a computer.

Even though the groups would remain about the same in number, the individuals
would move between groups as their circumstances change, greater knowledge,
work or home conditions and needs and their software requirements. Energy or
drive, enjoyment or otherwise to learning, etc..

So like most questions in life their is no answer, only more questions.
