James- I looked all around in cooker, and couldn't find the 2.5 kernel you 
mentioned.

BTW, I just compiled a really lean 2.4.21 vanilla with the Con Kolivas ck3 
patches he just posted (the base patch, and all the performance patches, and 
supermount). I like it at least as much as the MDK multimedia kernel I had 
been using (which is better than stock). 

I've had success with 2.5.67 through 2.5.72, except for one baffling show 
stopper. I can either enable serial drivers in xconfig, and get modem 
functions, but then have various serious problems in file managers, or 
disable serial, and all the problems go away- kernel works great, but I have 
no modem use. After months of countless configs and hair pulling, I'm still 
stumped. Where's that 2.5.xx you mentioned- I guess it works, or they 
wouldn't post it? I'd like to see that .config file!
