I have to say that I don't fully understand this 3" puck thing and I'm
too busy to mess with it right now. However, suffice to say it's still
not doing any meaningful dampening. And how is it not a lot of work to
reingineer shocks to accept the bigger pucks? My layout won't support a
3"+ diameter "shock" without some considerable effort.
I was so surprised that the puck size rule change was so well subscribed
at the same time we were trying to trim weight off the 493 penalty and
there were no takers on that issue.

well i believe the change on the rubber sizes should help all you
autocrossers out quite a bit
it shouldnt even be a big ordeal to modify your tubes to get em in there

I think this more a viewpoint from autocrossers that have race in
parking lots, airfields, and the like. We don't get the pristine
surfaces of a dedicated track. And lots of autocrossers do break
frame members .. probably about once a season for many of us. The
biggest problem is the pogo sticking. Sometimes I describe my car as
a motorized basketball.

Is everyone breaking suspension components or something??? I never
thought my car had a rough ride and i never broke any suspension
parts so im wondering where the push for shocks is even coming from,
can anyone fill me in on what kind of problems this is causing?
thanks

Chuck and Jay,
I am hugely in favor of better suspension control so if it is felt
that the 3" rubber (elastomer) cylinder will NOT do the job
(damping), I am requesting that the two of you (because I believe
that you are the best qualified) talk offline and come up with a
good cost effective solution that the class can present to the CRB.
One possible idea is the very small coil-over shock that the FSAE's
have been using. I was told that it came from a mountain bike,
which I find hard to believe, but the outside dimensions are about
the same as what we have now and should be an easy fit in our cars.
It would be spec with only one spring allowed and sealed (one part
number permited).
I am anxious to see what the two of you together can come up with -
maybe in time for 2007? - is this possible, Stan?
Here is a good idea to help our class - anybody else on this list
want to step up?
Jim
