God idea Chris- it woud save a lot of questions and confusion.
Maybe a circle with a slanted line thru it and an R in the center :->

Chuck, what do you think about getting a rule change that the car must be
identified as having or not having a reverse gear? A big yellow or orange
"R" on the car someplace if it doesn't have a reverse gear.

The other side of the argument:
Having reverse in a rqce car can be a safety hazard.
A race car that leaves the line or grid quickly in
reverse by mistake is not that uncommon!
I think it is a very good thing if the grid workers have to use a tiny bit
of muscle to back a car up.
They are standing up and can usually see a LOT better than the strapped in
driver.
