The other side of the argument:

Having reverse in a rqce car can be a safety hazard.

A race car that leaves the line or grid quickly in
reverse by mistake is not that uncommon!

I think it is a very good thing if the grid workers have to use a tiny bit of muscle to back a car up.

They are standing up and can usually see a LOT better than the strapped in driver.

True...true. A couple of years ago a DSR customer of mine pulled into impound after a race and the steward was walking around saying "show me your reverse, drivers" to everyone. We had to show him the GCR to prove DSRs didn't require one. He was cool, though, and then he wandered off saying "all you S2 guys, show me your reverse", to general laughter. Stan
