A driver can put a label on his car even if there is no rule that says: "no
reverse" just to make life easier for himself and everyone else.
But, like the symbol to help people find the master kill switch, I just
don't see any downside if it were a rule.
A rule might help with the uniformity and make the label or symbol easier to
find in an emergency.

Chris,
The stuck at the side of the track with the nose pointed at the guard rail
or gravel trap would be the only time I think that the symbol would be a
good idea. Other wise I never had to back up while forming up on the grid.
Don't go giving SCCA ideas about more rules.
I think that hand signals would be adequate for such situations.
I have a copy of the 1985 Sports Car and Formula Specifications and it is
only 65 pages long. Apparently the GCR was a separate book.
There was a claiming rule then, if you had a piece of crap that could
barley
get out of it's own way, and wanted a nice fast car, $6,870.00 would get
you
the other guys car.
Thank God that silliness has passed.
Richard

didn't have reverse, it save some confusion, also if the vehicle spun and
was on the side of the track...
