Even w/out CDF and no wind tunnel, racers have other ways to get the job done. 2) CFD is never a 100% substitute for other design tools. Back and forth validation between model elements and real world testing of some sort is still always required for optimal results. 3) The level of sophistication (cost) of the particular CFD software tool one uses makes a difference in how closely its results resemble reality.
