Apparently you choose the facts that best support your postion, and
that is revealing, both that you admit it and that you do it.

As I have stated, including partly above, I came at the issue with a
pro TMO bias, but an open mind, not trying to stack the facts. I have
reached a factual conclusion which is contrary to my understanding of
the issue.

You will reach your own conclusion using your own peculuar logic adn
method of research. I hope it serves you well.

What is his word? One sentence from a conversation 35 years ago with a
shankaracharay not recognized by the "traditon". And his main work
appears to be a novelist, on topics not related to Indian studies

Dana Sawyer travels to India almost yearly, and interviews 100s of
swamis, teachers, shakaracharas regularly.

While I find both sources relevant, per my values and training
regarding research research, Dana appears to be far deeper into
researching the swami traditions in India than Chandola. If I am
missing relevant info on Chandol, plese provide it.

And as would be prudent, I don't base my conclusions on any one
person, Dana, or anyone. Its not an either or as it appears to be in
your mind. I draw on all information I can find. I evaluate it. And
sort it by the relevance to the question at hand. And draw conclusions
when warranted (if and when a decision needs to be made). And remain
open to new information and changing of positions.
