Thank you for the constructive criticism.  It does help.  It would
help more if you could raise issues in the bug tracker and also in the
comments of the documentation.  But this thread is a start.

You will find that *most* large scale CMS solutions have many of the
problems you describe -- commercial or open source.  Especially those
systems that empower you to build your own solutions.  Just because a
solution has a user guide doesn't mean its worth reading or is even up
to date.  Just because you are charged money doesn't mean you will
find the solution any more approachable, and very often you will find
equivalent commercial solutions less well supported, but i digress.

I'll have a crack at answering your individual points in separate
emails.
