FitInside means that the uploaded image will be forced to fit within the nominated dimensions. The other option is to provide padding. Padding refers to resizing the image and using a nominated colour to fill or pad regions in the image to make an image of exactly the dimensions nominated. This is typically used for thumb-nailing. You'd need to give the exact steps to reproduce for me to be sure -- you can create media assets in numerous ways.
