Right now, fingernail clippers are being confiscated at security.
Weirdly enough, there are often fingernail clippers *for sale* at
many airports in the stores beyond the security checkpoint!

If you can find a plastic needle, that may be a prudent precaution.

I've seen a pendant for sale (through quilt oriented and sewing
oriented catalogs) that is some sort of metal (brass?) embossed with
swirlies that has tiny openings around the rim that protect a small
blade for cutting thread. Decorative enough to be worn as jewelry,
useful enough for those who sew!
