Would the little cutter on dental floss work?  If it cuts through dental
floss, I would think it would work on embroidery or needlepoint threads.

Won't hurt too much if they confiscate a box of dental floss when you go
through security either!  At least not as much as if they confiscate a good
pair of scissors!
