Me, too :) I spent 2 years in Australia, parts of 7-9 grades. I well
remember taking a spelling test my first day in Australian school...and

how time flies along with your archival brain I lived in Aussie for a
couple of years in the early 70s and had a devil of a time with
pronunciation there as well - dance and danse and chance and chanse. I
always know when an Aussie is on the phone now they say these words soooooo
different to me :-)
when I was living in Britain my 2 biggest trip up with pronunciation were
pin and pen and sex and six - and it was made even worse one of my jobs at
the store I worked in was to order the stationery! I only wanted 6 pens but
the guy on the phone was laughing sooooooo much. And in the end I could
have to say "half a dozen **** [brand] biros" or something along those lines
Heaven knows what an American or a Cannuck would think I was saying if I
chose to come visiting now.
And Louisa I feel for you toooooooo as much Americanismis flowing down
"gotten" is not really a word commonly used here but I find it creeping
into RL things. And as for Net words like LOL and even :-) which usually I
have to put <grin> when writing for my Guild newsletter as I don't think
non Internet users have much knowledge of.
