Nearly ready to begin warping the AVL--life keeps getting in the way,
but we have been working on the loom to fine-tune it before warping.
I have just 2 shafts of heddles left to untangle and mark, yippeeee! I
finally took out the beater and cloth beam so I could sit inside the
loom to finish that and for threading later one. The chair I'm using is
just a touch too big for the space and in height, so I will be looking
for a stool or something else to sit on for threading. I have a strong
board and might just prop it up on a couple concrete blocks.
DH and DD worked on the Dobby head for me, and decided the reason why
shafts were suddenly dropping was because some pegs were noticeably
shorter than others. It's strange because the bars were already pegged
with short and long pegs, and I know the previous owner woven with it
like that. But it's a fact that the shafts don't drop off as soon as
raised any more, so I guess that was it. Really weird there'd be pegs
of different lengths.
Almost have my 48 balls of yarn wound. Employees of Boyne City Ace
Hardware are to be thank for bringing in toilet paper rolls to wind the
balls of 8/2 cotton on <g>
I'm using almost every ounce of bleached cotton I have to do this warp,
which means, of course, that the one batch that's not as bleached as the
others will be included. I'll mix it in as evenly as possible with the
other white; hopefully it won't be noticeable after weaving.
I'm getting there! If only I hadn't had to spend 13 hours in the last
several days, proofreading a zoning ordinance, I might have been weaving
by now :)
Holly
where it's finally winter here in NW lower MI as well--sort of. We
still don't have hardly any snow, maybe 5 or 6 inches compared to the
usual 4 feet on the ground by now. However, the high temp yesterday
barely got into double digits farenheit, so doing chores felt wintry!
Hurray for wool mittens, dickey, and hat!
