After sending that, it occurred to me that this could be the germ of a feature request for Finale -- if the minimum measure width could somehow be tied to a particular meter. That is, if the minimum measure width applied only to a full measure of the displayed meter, then one could leave it set to 1" and have a 1/4 measure's minimum width be proportionally reduced. Of course, there are problems here with pieces that switch meters a lot. Basically, the default minimum width settings for measures and multi- measure rests seem to me to be too wide. Half an inch is often too narrow for a whole-note measure (or a multi-measure rest), but is often too wide for measures with reduced numbers of beats. I'm not sure how this could be implemented, but there ought to be a way to figure it out to be something that makes more sense than the current setup. Ideas? -- David W.
