garritan.com offers Personal Orchestra, Jazz & Big Band, Orchestral
Strings, and Stradivari Violin. The Personal Orchestra is a great
product but does not have saxophones. The Jazz and Big Band does.

complete standalone, use with other applications if we wish, version
(as is the full GPO for those who invest in it)? Will I be able to
use it with Sibelius or Band-in-a-Box if I wish?
I'm not sure what system you run, I'm going to assume Windows. Not sure.
The Mac version of the GPO that was included with Finale 2006 would show
up in Digital Performer and could be used there. Band in a Box on OS X
is a joke, and there is probably some messy way to get the stuff to work.
3) How easy is it to work with it in Finale?
Pretty easy, but you need the CPU and Memory to make it work right.
4) Are the sounds a huge improvement over the SmartMusic Soundfont or
since it's just a GM product, the samples aren't as large or well
put-together as the full GPO or JABB programs?
The samples are close to what you get with the full GPO. But they lack
the KS versions (which respond to aftertouch, etc), and the wet versions
(with nice reverb).
Thanks in advance for any insights anybody can offer me on this -- I
realize I can learn a lot from the Garritan web site, but I'm really
hoping to get some actual experienced users to chime in also.
I think all the products Garritan has done sound great. But they really
need a good, fast, buffed (as in memory) computer to use them. I
dedicated a whole computer just to run GPO (2.5 Gigahertz Athlon) and it
sometimes has problems with a lot of GPO patches loaded.
