I know nothing of the legalities, grammar, or semantics of using "The" or not using it, but surely a publisher should not be able to dictate to anyone about the name of their combo. It's your outfit- your language- and I presume you are footing the bill-so put your foot down.

A-NO-NE isn't an acronym. It's a Japanese word which could mean three ways, "Give Me A Brake", "Listen", and "The first of Sound". Maria Shneider never used The in front of Maria Shneider Jazz Orchestra. Carla Bley sometime omitted The, i.e., "Carla Bley Big Band Goes To Church".
