I was just working on a score (flute quintet) and was looking at the
Manage Parts dialog and investigated two things, neither of which I
recall having seen mentioned in the various discussions of potential
failures of this linked score/parts feature and just thought I would
bring them up.
One has to do with Chuck Israels' problem regarding part names -- in the
Manage Parts dialog there is an option to Edit Part Name. I don't
recall if you tried that to resolve your trumpet part labels, but if
not, perhaps that's what you're looking for.
The other has to do with extracting multiple parts from a single staff.
There is a "Voicing" button which I don't recall anybody having
mentioned. Clicking that opens a dialog which allows the user to define
which layer's notes are shown in a particular part, so if there are two
parts in two layers on one staff, you can create two different parts
from the same staff and assign each of these two parts to contain a
different layer. There are also "Rules For Selecting Notes From One or
More Layer(s)" which have the options: All Notes; Top Note; Bottom Note;
Selected Note (and it lists 5 different notes as well as an option to
count notes from either the bottom or the top) this Selected Note
portion also has an option to include Single Note Passages. Might this
dialog resolve some issues that were raised by people who were working
with scores which had some staves which contained multiple parts?
Perhaps all this has been discussed and I simply don't recall mention of
this dialog, but I thought I would raise it anyway. If it was already
discussed, I'm sure that will be pointed out to me. If it hasn't been
discussed, maybe further investigation will reveal that it might help
for situations some had considered hopeless and in need of the old part
extraction method.
