For my purposes, I can take practically any file created in any version of MSWord, read it, print it with the same formatting as in Word, edit and share it with others who may be using LibreOffice or MSWord without any difficulties. I think I have only come across one or two little items that weren't highly compatible. I collaborate with MSWord users all day long and I doubt they are even aware I am using LibreOffice. And that includes users who have Office 2000, Office 2007, Office 2010 and any other recent version.
With MusicXML, you lose everything but the notes, basically. It is not practical to collaborate with another writer unless you have identical versions of Finale and therefore can exchange compatible MUS files. I do not accept that comparison. In fact, exactly the opposite is true. Collaboration is practically impossible with Finale. Collaboration is inherent with LibreOffice.
