Andy\Gary,
Thanks for the info. My engine builder told me to get a remote filter housing that accepts a ford filter because the ford filter has the bypass in the filter and I don't have to worry about the fixture at the engine not having one. I ordered a part from Tin Indian Performance for the engine. It is a cnc aluminum part that has the ports sticking straight out from the engine instead of down. It sounds like a pain to drop the filter housing each time but I guess if you don't put a lot of miles on the car you shouldn't have the change the filter all that often. I did notice that Tin Indian had teflon reusable gaskets for the housing. Have you tried this and do they seal well?

Thanks,
Dan

Dan,

I used the Summit relocation kit http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM%2DG4985&N=700+115&autoview=sku with my reproduction long-branch manifolds. The kit works by having you spin on an adapter in place of the filter element. For my installation, even with the kit the hoses would have touched the manifold, so I added low-profile brass right-angle fittings, the kind that are machined from a solid block of brass. That allowed me to point the nipples toward the inner fender and route the hoses safely away from the manifold.

If you need even more clearance, you can replace the factory filter mount with a piece from KRE that bolts directly to the block and points the nipples to the side. You'd still need the remote filter mount, hoses and nipples that you get in the Summit kit. The KRE plate is shown a little over half way down the page at http://www.krepower.com/newpro1.htm for $35. The drawback to this method is that you lose the bypass valve in the factory filter mount, so I wouldn't do this unless you really need the clearance.
