Yep I did the same thing to a Chevelle that I had. It solved a very chronic and bothersome problem. My car is far from stock. I think I can live with a "borrowed" filter.

Dan -- Thanks! It's not that I'm advocating F*** products, but if something from another manufacturer works, why not use it? My '68 suffered from the hot-start problem for years until I put the remote solenoid on the fender, away from the heat of the exhaust pipes. Maybe the best way to handle it is as the other guy suggested -- use an "aftermarket" product!
